The Model Customs Collectorate Peshawar, Collector Gul Rehman has said that Azakhel dry port will be made fully operational next year. The official said the Customs collectorate had taken up measures for provision of essential requirements in the dry port, like internet, banking and other facilities. He said that all possible measures would be taken as per rules to fully facilitate the business community. He said that Pakistan Railways has assured them to handover AzaKhel dry port in Nowshera till January next year.

He was speaking to business community during a meeting at Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), chaired by its president Zahidullah Shinwari. Additional Collector Customs-I Faiz Ali, Additional Collector Customs-II Yousaf Haider Orakzai, Additional Collector Customs-III Ziaullah Shams, Deputy Collector Headquarter, Zakir Mohammad, chamber former presidents, incumbent senior vice president, vice president, executive committee members, industrialists and traders, former presidents were also present during the meeting.

About the reservations on new Afghan Transit Trade Agreement, the official assured that efforts would be made to remove impediments in bilateral trade between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Regarding the difficulties at Torkham border, Rehman said that the measures had taken to fully facilitate the importers and exporters at Torkham border. He said the auto clearing system WeBOC - Web-Based One Customs, would resolve number of issues of importers and exporters with the installation of the system at the border region. For this purpose, he informed that module has been completed and would soon launch the system at joint Pak-Afghan sharing border region.

The official further said that WeBOC system is an effective one, which has minimum risk management, while it could give boost to import and exports via Torkham border to Afghanistan and other Central Asian Republic countries. About apprehensions on imposition of regulatory duty (RD) on imported items, the official said the issue would be taken up with authorities concerned at appropriate forum.

Earlier, Shinwari said that the chamber and business community were not taken into confidence on the new Afghan Transit Trade Agreement and as such it could have negative impacts on the bilateral trade.

He said that the imposition of regulatory duty on over 371 imported items had adversely affected the imports and exports, saying that the decision should be reversed immediately.
