Punjab Minister for Specialized Healthcare & Medical Education Khawaja Salman Rafiq has said that ample opportunities of foreign investment are available in Punjab especially in healthcare sector. "The Punjab is an open province for foreign investment. After formulating action plan between the Punjab government and Ministry of Health Turkey significant achievements have been made in healthcare sector," Salman said while addressing a seminar held at Expo Center Auditorium in connection with the three-day Pak-Turkish Medical and Health Fair-2017, here today.

Provincial Minister Primary & Secondary Health Khawaja Imran Nazir, Minister for Industries Sh. Alla-ud-Din, Minister Population Welfare Dr Mukhtar Berth, Secretary Specialized Healthcare Najam Ahmad Shah, Turkish Consulate General in Lahore Sirdar Deniz, Member Turkish Parliament and Co-Chairman Pak-Turk Parliamentary Friendship Burhan Kayaturk, delegates from Turkey, representatives of Ministry of Health Turkey, President LCCI, representatives of local and Turkish companies, high officials, and VCs and Principals of Medical Universities/Colleges were also present.

Khawaja Salman Rafiq said that the 3-day exhibition of medical equipment in the name of Pakmedica Medical and Health Fair is a part of Chief Minister's mission under which he has worked day and night to provide best healthcare system to the people of Punjab. This exhibition would provide opportunities to exchange knowledge and experience of Punjab Health Authorities and Turkish Ministry of Health, he said, adding: "New era of cooperation at government to government level and business to business level would start."

Salman Rafiq appreciated the cooperation of Ministry of Health Turkey for providing training to the nurses and Rescue staff in the best institutions of Turkey, upgradation of drug testing laboratories, medicine analysis facility in Turkish labs, training of lab staff on modern lines, establishing the Punjab Public Health Agency, upgradation of teaching hospitals and devising hospital information management system in Punjab.

He further said that government would not only encourage joint ventures of local and Turkish investors but would also extend all kinds of support to them. Earlier, Secretary Health Najam Ahmad Shah gave presentation on the development in health sector, construction of new hospitals and initiatives taken by the both health departments ie Specialized Healthcare & Medical Education and Primary & Secondary Health.

He said that new initiatives have been taken by the government under which more than 2000 beds have been included in the system. He further said that health department is signing agreements with the large private hospitals for bed sharing. He said that government is outsourcing the different services in the hospitals such as laundry, janitorial services, hospital waste management, electrical, plumbing supply chain management and radiology.

Punjab Minister for Industries Sheikh Alla-ud-Din in his address said that the dream of holding such a mega event materialized simply owing to the tireless efforts of Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif. He said that Pakmedica exhibition would be helpful in improving health services in Punjab. He said that Turkish health system is a role model for us to follow.

While addressing the seminar, member Turkish Parliament Burhan Kayaturk and Consulate General Sirdar Deniz urged upon Turkish investors to avail this opportunity of investment in Pakistan. Burhan informed that at present more than 100 Turkish companies are working in Punjab in different sectors including energy and health.

The 3-day Pakmedica-Medical and Health Exhibition would continue till September 30. More than 60 companies of Pakistan and Turkey have displayed their products of medical equipments.
