A meeting of the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) on Monday approved over Rs 37 billion for 15 development projects of various sectors of economy. The CDWP meeting chaired by Deputy Chairman Planning Commission Sartaj Aziz was put up development projects by various ministries for consideration and approval. Of the total over Rs 37 billion projects, the meeting gave final approval to Rs 12.3 billion projects and referred three projects of Rs 25 billion to the Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC).

The meeting was put up projects by the Interior Ministry and Higher Education Commission (HEC), while it also considered projects for Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governments. The CDWP referred Rs 5.856 billion project of Ministry of Defence Production for expansion of Karachi Shipyard to the ECNEC with the completion timeline of 36 months. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Highways Authority's project of Rs 19.495 billion for rehabilitation of provincial roads was also referred to the ECNEC. The project includes rehabilitation of 214.20 kilometers roads with widening of 7.3 meters and 6.1 meters. The CDWP also approved Rs 5.257 billion for projects of Higher Education Commission (HEC).

The HEC projects included: (i) Rs 564.260 million for educational block at Khushal Khan University Karak; (ii) Rs 893.944 million for female campus at Swat University Mingora; (iii) Rs 1.595 billion project aimed at improving facilities at Ghazi University at Dera Ghazi Khan.

The meeting also submitted 4 projects of Rs 3.546 billion projects for physical planning and the meeting approved Interior Ministry's project of Rs 1.066 billion for residence and rehabilitation in Chitral, Khyber Agency and other areas of KP. Another projects of Interior Ministry of Rs 2.2 billion for residence of headquarter Frontier Core KPK DIG was also approved. The construction of mosque and playgrounds projects of Rs 129.307 million for Gilgit-Baltistan and Skardu Scouts was also approved b the CDWP.

The meeting also approved a project of Rs 149.950 million of Sindh government for construction of additional block for providing training to the staff of jails in Sindh province. The meeting also approved two projects of Rs 835.934 million and Rs 423.509 million of Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission.
