The legal fraternity on Friday observed a black day to mourn killings of innocent people in Karachi on May 12, 2007, when then deposed chief justice Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was scheduled to address the Sindh High Court Bar. Lawyers appeared before courts wearing black armbands and bar associations organized protest meetings to condemn the incident and failure of the government to bring the perpetrators to justice. Black flags were also hoisted on the bar's premises.

Speaking to a meeting of Lahore High Court Bar Association, lawyers said the main culprit of the May 12 carnage was Pervez Musharraf and his allied party, the MQM. They regretted that the democratic rulers restored judiciary but betrayed the sacrifices of lawyers and innocent people by not punishing the responsible of the Karachi and Sahiwal carnages. Dozens of lawyers were burnt alive during the 2007 lawyers' movement. They said the families of the martyred were still in search of justice.
