The suicide attack on Deputy Chairman Senate Maulana Ghafoor Haideri at Mastung in Balochistan on Friday earned the ire of lawmakers, prompting a federal minister to accuse the government of not launching offensive against militant hideouts in Turbat which, he claimed, is a stronghold of terrorists. Soon after Chairman Senate Raza Rabbani condemned the deadly attack on Deputy Chairman Senate Ghafoor Haideri, Minister for Port and Shipping Mir Hasil Biznejo said that targets are identified but even then the government is reluctant to target the militant hideouts in Turbat.

"So far, well above 400 people have been killed only in district Turbat in different terrorist attacks...the government and other law enforcement agencies know that all the hardcore terrorists are taking refuge in this district [Turbat]. The targets are identified, but why no action is being taken is a mystery," he lamented. He demanded that the government must launch a lethal offensive against terrorists as an operation clean-up is the only way out.

Chairman Senate Raza Rabbani strongly condemned the attack on Haideri. "Perpetrators of this cowardly act cannot shake our resolve to eradicate the menace of terrorism. If they [terrorists] think they can demoralise us, they are mistaken. We will not allow these terrorists to be successful in their nefarious motives," he added. "In this attack, according to my information, eight to ten people have expired while the deputy chairman also sustained injuries," he said and informed that he twice talked to home secretary and chief secretary Balochistan and the corps commander asking them to shift Haideri to Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Quetta if his condition is serious.

Raja Zafarul Haq, Leader of the House in Senate offered fateha for those who embraced martyrdom. He said those undertake such attacks on innocent people have no religion, and they are the enemies of the humanity. Other lawmakers belonging to both opposition and treasury benches also condemned the suicide attack on the deputy chairman Senate, saying it is an attack on the state. They questioned if the deputy chairman of Senate is not safe, what to talk about the safety of a common man. They called upon the government to take the war against terrorism to its logical conclusion as such attacks are tantamount to attacking sovereignty of the country. He expressed the resolve that the enemies of the country will not succeed in their nefarious designs.
