The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday expressed displeasure over extension of detention of Jamat-ud-Dawa Chief Hafiz Saeed and his five aides 'without due process of law'. A division bench of the LHC was holding proceedings in a petition of Hafiz Saeed and his aides who had challenged their detention for 90 days and subsequent extension for another 90 days on April 30.

The court remarked that how his detention was extended if his matter was not taken by a review board. The court asked the law officer to present order of the review board, if any, in this regard on next date of hearing on May 16. The counsel of Hafiz Saeed replied in negative when asked whether Hafiz was presented before the review board before extension of his detention.

The law officer appearing before the court sought time for reply to the court query. According to details, the Punjab government on January 28 had placed names of Hafiz Saeed, Abdullah Ubaid (Faisalabad), Malik Zafar Iqbal Shahbaz (Markaz Tayyaba, Muridke), Abdul Rehman Abid (Markaz Tayyaba, Muridke) and Qazi Kashif Hussain of Multan in fourth schedule of Anti Terrorism Act and put them under detention for 90 days on February 30.
