In an attempt to promote medical education in the province, Punjab government has decided to establish three medical universities in the province. These new universities included Nishtar Medical University, Multan, Rawalpindi Medical University and Faisalabad Medical University.

Provincial Minister Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Khawaja Salman Rafiq and Minister for Primary and Secondary Health Khawaja Imran Nazir have lauded the decision regarding setting up of three new medical universities in Punjab and said that these universities would prove a milestone in promoting medical education in Punjab. Salman Rafiq said that by establishing Nishtar Medical University, Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has fulfilled the long standing demand of the people of Southern Punjab. Salman said that new medical universities, medical colleges, new hospitals and specialized healthcare institutions which have been constructed during the present regime are unique example of developments.

He further said that Rawalpindi Medical College and Punjab Medical College were playing very effective role for promoting medical education and hoped that after getting status of medical universities, these institutions would further enhance their significant role in medical education, research and producing highly qualified professionals.
