Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Saturday that development projects initiated by his predecessor are full of corruption and an effort to probe them would consume entire tenure of his government. The Prime Minister was talking to the media after groundbreaking ceremony of metro bus project from Peshawar Mor to New Islamabad Airport. "There are so many scams in the name of development and it would consume our entire tenure if we try to probe the corruption and embezzlement," he said. However, he said time would come when corruption would reach its logical conclusion.

"We have revived stalled development projects by allocating more funds to complete them," he said. He further said present government has revived many such projects and cited the example of 969MW Neelum-Jhelum power generation project. He said that this project had been under construction for many years but the present government accelerated pace of work to ensure its completion by the end of next year. He added that some projects with completion period of two years were not completed even in twenty years.

The Prime Minister said that present government believes in rapid completion of development projects without compromising on quality. Modern infrastructure projects such as airports, highways, motorways and transport system are important for economic growth as these help to establish industries and facilitate transportation of food items. He said that availability of facilities to the people in rural areas will also contain their migration to urban areas.

He said that metro bus and new airport projects will be completed simultaneously to facilitate the commuters to and from the airport. The metro bus link with a total length of 25.6 kilometres will be completed by National Highway Authority in four phases.

The Prime Minister was also given a briefing on new Islamabad airport with officials maintaining that the project would be completed by 14th August to handle 4,500 passengers at a time. He was told that 95 percent work on terminal building has been completed while international standard air traffic control system is being installed at the airport.
