Chicago Board of Trade wheat futures surged 5.2 percent to their highest since March 8 on Monday on concerns about damage to the crop in the US Plains following heavy snow in key growing areas during the weekend. K.C. hard red winter wheat, which tracks the crop being grown in the Plains, rose 7.2 percent, hitting its highest since March 9. The most-active CBOT wheat contract notched its biggest daily gain in percentage terms since July 1, 2015.
