The Beggars' Home Lahore has received a sum of Rs 19 millions from the provincial government for clearing its 'outstanding liabilities' including the salaries of its officials which were not paid for the last 10 months due to lack of funds, official sources privy to the information told Business Recorder here on Tuesday.

"As we have received this amount after a long delay, we will first pay the salaries to our staffs that are unpaid for the last 10 months. Then we will pay other liabilities that include utility bills and other miscellaneous expenditures," they said while seeking anonymity.

They said the provincial government will now allocate a separate budget for the Beggars' Home Lahore as it has become a permanent institution. Earlier, the department was functioning on 'temporary bases' and they had to borrow money for running its day-to-day affairs, they added. In 2014, the Punjab government took the first step towards eradication of beggary and the Department of Social Welfare established a Beggar's Home.

The home has the capacity to accommodate 50 persons at a time.
