Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan said on Sunday that he is fighting a 'mafia' and a 'godfather.' He expressed these views at Huqooq-e-Karachi rally at Jail Chowrangi. Thousands of his supporters participated in his PTI's mega political show where Khan said the verdict of Panamagate case would determine the Pakistan's future whether it is going to become a self-reliant and high-esteemed country or it would be a heaven for corrupt elements.

"It is history of Nawaz Sharif that he had been bribing judges, bureaucrats, media and others for vested interest," he said.

Referring to the Dawn Leaks case, he said that Nawaz Sharif being the Prime Minister of Pakistan made unacceptable statements against the Pakistan Army. He said nation demand Prime Minister Nawaz to answer and clarify his position on the issue. He said Nawaz had to be held accountable on this. "In the democratic world, leaders don't give negative remarks against their armed forces," he said.

PTI chairman said that godfather was now handed over to the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) hence he should resign. He also asked the lawyers fraternity, students, doctors, and business community to tell Nawaz Sharif to quit as Prime Minister.

"Karachiites should stand for their rights. Pakistan Peoples Party and Muttahida Qaumi Movement had been in power for the last several years, but they failed to ensure even the fundamental rights for the masses," he said, adding that Asif Zardari and his cronies, instead of spending the development funds to uplift the life of ordinary people in rural and urban Sindh, plundered public money and siphoned off millions of rupees to Dubai.

Khan recalled that once Karachi had been a city of light, but, target killing, extortion, land grabbing, street crimes, power outages and heaps of garbage, have become the hallmark of the city, due to negligence of relevant authorities. He said that had the people raised their voice against violation of their rights, the situation would not have been as deteriorated as it is today.

Earlier, PTI set up its camp at the New MA Jinnah Road near mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. The party workers from different parts of the metropolis began thronging the venue by afternoon. The jubilant workers wearing the party's symbolic caps and waving flags continued dancing amid background songs throughout the day.

The PTI chief along with the party's central leadership led the rally of tens of thousands of participants on a specially designed well- decorated 'Tabdeeli Express Bus' from MA Jinnah Road to Jail Chowrangi.

The rally took some two hours to reach the venue where Imran Khan and Shah Mehmood Qureshi spoke to the participants.

The PTI chief also asked the Sindh Government to resolve the civic and administrative issues of metropolis such as provision of water, electricity, removal of garbage and improved traffic system. He also urged the provincial government to empower the local councils system through devolving powers to grass-root level.

He also asked the provincial governments to make police reforms and empower the LB set-up emulating the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa model. He said that people of Sindh and Punjab would not trust the police as long as their recruitments were not made on merit instead of political grounds.

He said some 30 percent development funds of KP province were directly going to the local councils' representatives for the uplift of the province.

Lack of foolproof security arrangements was visible at Imran Khan's rally because there was no proper checking and no walkthrough gates. Neither the government nor the PTI itself bothered to take precautionary measures to maintain law and order. People were entering the venue from various locations without being searched. However, trucks and dumpers were placed on streets leading to the rally routes. Only a few police officials were seen around the rally.

Due to sweltering weather, PTI supporters were buying bottled drinking water, juices and soft drinks from vendors who set-up stalls at different locations along the route of the rally.
