Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Saturday said, "The role of Rangers in Karachi should not be made controversial every three months". "Their extension should be made after every three months without hurdle for their smooth functioning," the minister demanded this from Sindh government while addressing the passing out parade at Rangers Training Center in Karachi.

The minister said, "Sindh Rangers have made a new history of bringing peace in Karachi by exhibiting valour and sacrifices." He said, "Thirty-three officials of Sindh Rangers have scarified their lives and hundreds of them sustained injuries to safeguarding the homeland from terrorists, extortionists and criminals".

"Sindh Rangers have rendered unrivalled sacrifices and services to reinstate peace in Karachi for past three years by transcending all political pressures", he added. The minister informed that, "The federal government has increased funding of Sindh Rangers from 7.5 billion rupees to 12 billion rupees". Chaudhry Nisar continued that, "Whole Pakistan will be benefited from peace in Karachi," adding that one person had hijacked its peace back in 2013, but situation has changed significantly now.

The minister remarked, "A hard task was assigned to Sindh Rangers in 2013 when they were facing internal as well as external threats". He said, "Sindh Rangers conducted 9500 operations in past three years during which 7500 terrorists and criminals were arrested besides confiscation of cache of arms and ammunition". "Whole Pakistan respects Rangers' efforts for restoring peace in Karachi," he added. The interior minister also extolled performance of the police and intelligence agencies, and said they must bring Karachi's operation to its logical end. He said, "Our forces are facing foreign threats."

"Threats also exist from enemies who are hiding under guise of friendship," the interior minister said. Meanwhile, a high-level meeting was held at Rangers headquarters in Karachi with Interior Minister Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan in the chair. The meeting reviewed Karachi operation, internal security situation of the country and role of civil and armed forces. The DG Rangers Sindh briefed the interior minister about the Karachi operation.
