At least two persons died when a Karachi-bound Shalimar Express train collided with an oil tanker in Punjab's Sheikhupura district on Monday night, Aaj News reported. Rescue personnel said at least six people were injured in the accident. "The three carriages near the engine caught fire after the collision. The fire then spread to other carriages," said Najam Khan, spokesperson for the Pakistan Railways.
Khan added that further help has been sought from Lahore. Seven carriages of the train caught fire after the collision. Fire-fighting services managed to extinguish the flames in two of the carriages."The accident happened as the railway crossing was ungated," said DSP Khalid Gujjar. The Shalimar Express was heading towards Karachi from Lahore.
