Target killing, terrorism, kidnapping for ransom and extortion incidents have significantly dropped in Karachi during 2016. According to details, Karachi police have issued an annual performance report stating, an apparent decrease of 33 percent has been observed in murder related incidents as 666 cases were reported in 2016. Total of 45 target killing incidents were witnessed in 2016 which were 159 in 2015 whereas 21 cases regarding kidnapping for ransom were registered in 2016 and two incidents of terrorism.

About 146 extortion mishaps were reported in 2016 which were 224 in 2015. Talking about dacoity incidents in 2016, 1504 cars were stolen and 226 were snatched which were 1661 and 328 in 2015 respectively. Police sources revealed 21502 motorcycles were robbed while 2759 were looted from the locals in 2016. A total of 28,432 criminals were arrested and 391 terrorists and criminals killed in encounters with police. The report says a huge cache of arms and ammunitions was also recovered during the targeted operations this year. The officers said that the crime rate in the metropolis has declined due to operation that started in 2013.
