'The Democrats' panel trounced the rival 'The Journalists' panel in the annual election of Karachi Press Club, here on Saturday. All the contestants belonging to the Democrats panel were elected with a huge margin of votes. The Democrats' Siraj Ahmed was elected president by securing 464 votes against The Journalists' Abid Hussain who was polled 225 votes.

Maqsood Yousufi was elected secretary bagging 497 votes against Amir Shaikh who got 177 votes. Minhajur Rab was elected vice president with 425 votes while his closest rival Riaz Suhail who was polled 217 votes. Moosa Kaleem was elected treasurer with 518 votes against Tahir Noor (163 votes). Naimat Khan was elected joint secretary with 464 against closest rival Meraj Fatima who got 194 votes. The following contestants were elected governing body members: Saeed Sarbazi 501 votes, Shams Keerio 498, Asghar Chaudhry secured 491, Arif Hussain Hashmi 459, Hanif Akbar 422, Suhail Rafique 402 while Liaquat Ali Khan got 399 votes.
