Foggy weather conditions are prevailing in various parts of the country, which induce obstacles for the travellers. Before starting travel on highways and motorways, commuters should inquire about fog situation from Motorway Police helpline 130 or from fog information centers established at Toll Plazas.

The prime responsibility of NH&MP is to save the lives of road users. In order to avoid series accidents and loss of lives Motorways usually remain closed in dense foggy areas in extremely compulsive situations as per law. In case of emergency please keep road safety rules into your consideration and be careful while driving. Please do not travel during dense fog. Travellers can also get information about foggy areas from LEDs installed on Toll Plazas.

People should travel in fog only in dire need. The total numbers of patrolling vehicles have been increased in foggy areas to provide instant help to the road users. Motorway Police has taken special safety measures to facilitate the road users travelling in fog. Drivers of the vehicles are requested to travel in special convoys lead by patrolling mobiles of Motorway Police in foggy areas. Take particular care when driving in fog, especially at night. Fog can be patchy, going from a light mist to a thick blanket in an instant. Obviously, the faster you drive in these conditions, the less time you will have to avoid danger.

Use your windscreen wipers and demisters. As you enter fog, check your mirrors and slow down. People are requested to necessarily install fog lights in the vehicle, keep head lights at low beam, abstain using mobile phone and listening radio/tape to remain conscious about surroundings, double the distance from the vehicle ahead as compared to normal situation, avoid applying sudden breaks, don't overtake in any situation and avoid reversing the vehicle on highways and motorways. The person sitting beside the driver on the second seat should also concentrate on the road. The Motorway Police has instructed the drivers to use GT Road for travelling instead of Motorways during foggy season.-PR
