Pakistan summoned top Indian diplomat on Tuesday and lodged a strong protest over latest cease-fire violations on Working Boundary and Line of Control that resulted in killing of 6 civilians and inuring 8 others. According to Foreign Office spokesperson Nafees Zakaria, the Director General South Asia and SAARC Dr Mohammad Faisal summoned Indian Deputy High Commissioner, JP Singh and strongly condemned the unprovoked cease-fire violations on 31 October 2016, by the Indian forces.

He said that the Indian forces resorted to unprovoked firing on the LoC in Nikial and Jandrot sectors, resulting in loss of lives of six civilians, including a woman and injuries to eight other civilians, including two women. The Director General urged the Indian side to respect the 2003 cease-fire understanding, investigate the continued incidents of cease-fire violations, instruct the Indian forces to respect the cease-fire, in letter and spirit, stop targeting the villages and civilians and maintain peace on the Working Boundary and the LoC.

Meanwhile, according to ISPR, the Indians forces committed 178 cease-fire violations at the LoC and Working boundary this year due to which 19 civilians lost their lives and 80 were injured. It stated that a group of UNMOGIP [United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan] visited the line of control near Kotli on Tuesday and obtained first hand information of Indian high handedness of targeting civil population near Line of Control.

During this year, the ISPR stated that 11 civilians were killed due to unprovoked Indian firing and 29 were seriously injured. It further stated that eight civilian were killed at Working Boundary near Sialkot and Shakargarh and 51 were seriously injured due to Indian unprovoked firing since January 2016.
