A woman and a disabled girl lost their lives when a house collapsed during cleansing of Gujjar Nullah near Café Piyala on Thursday. Aaj News reported that the body of one dead was recovered and efforts were in progress for recovery of the second one. Sewerage drains cleansing drive was launched in view of forecast of heavy rains in Karachi. The deaths triggered a stiff protest from the relatives but officials argued that house was built illegally along the Gujjar Nullah. The relatives of the victims complained that the local authorities had not informed them in advance about the risk of the cleansing drive.
