Shawwal moon has been sighted and Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Wednesday (today), Chairman Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Mufti Munibur Rahman announced here on Tuesday night. But final announcement by him was preceded by an unsavoury incident showing his deep frustration over speculations by certain TV channels about sighting of moon.

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee met here on Tuesday at Aiwan-e-Auqaf for sighting of the Shawwal moon. Experts of the Meteorology Department also helped the Committee in connection with sighting of the moon. The committee got reports about the sighting of the moon from its zonal committees at the provincial capitals after about two hours deliberation, Mufti Munibur Rahman announced that Shawwal moon has been sighted at various places across the country including Lahore, Dera Ghazi Khan, Okara, Jehanian, Zhob, Mirpurkhas, Tharparkar, Bannu, FATA, therefore the Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Wednesday (today).

Earlier, the Central Ruet Hilal Committee, comprising ulema/scholars of all schools of thought unanimously condemned suicide bomb blasts at Madina Sharif and other cities of Saudi Arabia. The Committee called upon all heads of state of the Muslim countries to take immediate and effect steps to curb such nefarious activities at the most sacred places of Islam and punish the perpetrators of such crimes.
