The International Mail Office (IMO) of the Model Customs Collectorate (MCC) Islamabad on Monday seized 320 grams of heroin powder at IMO Chaklala, Rawalpindi, leading to a fourth major seizure of heroin totaling worth around 35 millions in 2-3 months period.

Sources told Business Recorder here on Monday that since assumption of charge of the post of Collector of Customs MCC Islamabad by Dr Arslan Subuctageen, the IMO has made four major seizures of heroin in a short span of time. The seizures included 700grams, 1.75kg, 205grams and seizure of 320 grams. Total value of the said seized heroin in four cases is around Rs 35 millions. During this period of 2-3 months, the manual scanning process has been improved through effective monitoring and supervision.

Due to detections and manual enforcement done by the IMO, the IMO has been successfully carrying out operations against the smugglers. Under the manual system, IMO is detecting the cases of heroin smuggling. Collector of the MCC Islamabad has requested the FBR to provide scanning machine for automation of the processes at the IMO Rawalpindi. Therefore, the cases of detections would also increase following installation of scanning machine at the IMO.

Meanwhile, the incident report revealed that during clearance of export registry parcels at international Mail Office, Chaklala Garrison, Rawalpindi a parcel bearing No RB005780815PK booked by Raja Waqas Ali, Chaklala Rawalpindi for Rafique, 53 Huxley Avenue M8 Olx Cheethmhill, Manchester, UK, was found suspicious. The parcel comprised 03 books and a ladies suit. Detailed examination of the parcel led to the recovery of 320 grams (net weight) of heroin powder tactfully concealed in the binding of the books. An FIR is being lodged against the above named consigner with I&P Branch under the Customs Act, 1969. Further investigation is under process, sources added.
