Pakistan has an incredible diversity of culture, traditions and languages. And Balochistan is one of the lands of our country endowed with such diversity, its people are an integral part of our culture and society. The strong traditions and cultural values are important to Baloch people and they preserved their traditions by keeping their distinctive ancient cultural identity and way of life intact. The culture and traditions of the Baloch have historically been passed down from generations to generations.

Balochi culture and language have its own uniqueness and richness which needs to be promoted in the country and for that purpose Balochi literature must be translated in other languages to understand Baloch people and their culture. Hospitality and loyalty are among the chief aspects of Baloch culture. A guest is entertained and honoured among Balochis in a highly appreciable manner. The Baloch men wear long shirts with long sleeves and loose shalwar occasionally accompanied by a headgear (turban). While women dress code consists of a long shirt with traditional Blochi embroidery and mirror work along with dupatta or chaadar.

Highlighting and promoting the diversified and rich Balochi culture and language various cultural shows and musical programmes were organised in various cities and towns throughout the country last week. Karachiites celebrated the Baloch Culture Day with full zeal by giving importance to the Balochi traditions. Wearing distinctive embroidered Balochi dresses and turbans men, women and children participated enthusiastically in Baloch Culture Day celebrated at Karachi Press Club last week and later at US Consul General residence in Karachi.

Celebration of the said event started during 2011. Baloch community in Pakistan and abroad organises various programmes to highlight different shades of Baloch culture and traditions. Cultural and musical show held at Karachi Press Club was attended by youngsters and children who exhibited their talent by singing Balochi songs and performing Balochi dance. Keeping its traditions for the second year the US Consul General marked the occasion at his residence. In the musical reception Baloch folk singer Akhtar Channal Zehri thrilled the audience by his performance. US Consul General, Brian Heath emphasised on the importance of cultural interaction in building lasting relationships between Pakistan and US. He also appreciated Pakistan's rich cultural heritage.
