Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif on way back from Tajikistan made a brief stop in Kabul. He held meetings with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani at the latter's palace and separately with US Military Leadership including CJS General Dunford, CENTCOM General Austin and Resolute Support Mission Commander General Nicholson apart from attending Change of Command Ceremony of Resolute Support Mission, according to ISPR.

The focus of discussion remained on regional security, border management and the operation co-ordination of Shawal Operation to check terrorists trying to flee across border into Afghanistan.

The ISPR further stated that the meeting reviewed and expressed their optimism for positive outcome of reconciliation process being pursued through the ongoing QCG framework.

On this occasion, General Raheel reiterated wholehearted support to the Afghan leadership for peace and stability in Afghanistan. The Afghan leadership acknowledged Pakistan Army's efforts and achievements in war against terrorism and its role for bringing regional peace and stability.
