A Council of Common Interest (CCI) meeting yesterday postponed the census scheduled for March 2016 till the availability of armed forces and decided to announce a new date after seeking availability of armed personnel to lend credence to the exercise and provide security to the staff to be involved in it. The CCI meeting chaired by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was informed that since the armed forces are engaged in the ongoing military operation Zerb-e-Azb and deployment of required army personnel in March/April for conducting the census throughout the country on same day was not possible.

The council tasked the concerned to consult the armed forces for availability of the required human resource and propose a new date for census. The Prime Minister noted with concern the "illegal" releases of funds to a project without its approval. All those who started the project and released funds in violation of rules and procedures must be identified and penalized according to the law, said the Prime Minister. The country cannot face such misadventures at the cost of public money. Whether departments or individuals, but those responsible must be made answerable to the people of Pakistan for such faulty projects, emphasised the Prime Minister.
