Federal Interior Min-ister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan observed on Tuesday that the decision of the Army Chief not to seek extension in his tenure is his personal matter. Addressing a press conference here, he said giving extension to the Army chief is the discretionary power of the Prime Minister and governments make such kind of decisions at the end of tenure of an outgoing army chief.

To a question about any chance of extension to the incumbent Army Chief, he said that a decision in this regard will be purely made on merit. Responding to a question who will be the next Army Chief, he said "It is premature to talk on this subject at this stage." Regarding investigation into the Pathankot incident, he said Pakistan would approach India to allow special investigation team to visit Pathankot to gather relevant information regarding the attack.

He said the Foreign Office would formally contact India to seek permission for a visit of the team. The Interior Minister said the investigation team has held many meetings and its work is proceeding ahead. To a question, he said action would be taken against Maulana Abdul Aziz if he broke the law. He said action would also be taken if any evidence is presented against him.

Referring to the presence of Daesh in Pakistan, he said there is no organisational existence of IS in Pakistan, saying those who are talking about the presence of Daesh should come out with substantial evidence. He said terrorists are on the run due to the actions taken against them by the armed forces. To a question about the arrest of terrorists from Daska, Karachi and parts of the Sindh, he said that they belong to various banned outfits and use the name of Daesh to hide their identity.

Talking about Uzair Baloch, he said his interrogation is underway as he is under physical remand for 90 days and added that whatever will be outcome of the investigation would be brought under the spotlight. When his attention was drawn to the difficulties faced the public at NADRA and passport offices, he said that steps would be taken to address such problems. He vowed to hold a proper investigation into the incident of a woman who lost her life at a NADRA office in Gujranwala on Tuesday. Talking about the construction of a 500-bed hospital in Taxila, he said that the work on the project was in progress and the entire population of the Rawalpindi Division will take benefit from this project.
