Sindh government has appointed a team of reputable physicians and surgeons to examine workers associated with different factories and mines on regular basis. Senior officials of Sindh Labour department told media here Sunday that these committees will be required to submit their reports to the authorities on weekly basis enabling government to initiate a full fledged health security program for the labourers from different sectors.

Talking to journalists following a walk organised to raise awareness among workers and managers of different industrial units about their health rights, they said relevance and measures to prevent lung infections including silicosis caused due to exposure to dust particles is very much needed.

Officials said strict compliance to laws providing protection to the workers belonging to industrial and agricultural sectors as well as those associated with mining industry and transport business are among the priorities of the Sindh Labour Department.

Sindh Secretary for Labour Affairs, Abdul Rasheed Solangi said it was on the directives of the Advisor to the Sindh Chief Minister for Labour Affairs, Asghar Ali Khan Junejo that stringent measures are being taken for the protection of the workers. These rights of workers and labourers, he said also include right to quality life and prevention of wide range of diseases.
