Speakers at a seminar on "Punjab Sales Tax Act 2012" appealed to people to pay taxes to enable the government to have enough financial resources for development and prosperity of the country.

The seminar was arranged by the US-Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Agriculture and Food Security, University of Agriculture Faisalabad at New Senate Hall where Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan, Vice Chancellor of University of Agriculture Faisalabad, Commissioner Punjab Revenue Authority Faisalabad Imran Hayee Khan, UAF Treasurer Umar Saeed, USPCAS's Professor Dr Bashir Ahmad, Additional Commissioner Asad Aziz, Deputy Commissioner Asif Nadeem spoke.

Professor Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan said that stealing the tax became a norm due to which loss of billions of rupees was caused and development and prosperity of the country was impeded. "We have to encourage the people about the tax because country suffers from poverty, food insecurity and backwardness. These challenges need to be met by joint efforts of the government and people," he said.

Imran Hayee said after the dissolution of power under the 18th amendment from federal government to provinces, Sindh took the lead in setting up the revenue board following the Punjab, KPK and Balochistan. Briefing the audience about Punjab Sales Tax Act 2012, Umar Saeed, stressed on the need that people must be aware of the importance of the tax. He said all out efforts are being made by the university to sensitise the public about the importance of the tax. USPCAS's Professor Dr Bashir Ahmad also called for strengthening the system of direct tax. He said that the 39 percent of the tax was being collected directly and 61 percent was indirect tax hence government should enforce the tax system effectively.
