Inter-tribe conflict is creating hurdles in the shifting of NLC-Customs Terminal from Torkham border to Jamrud, Khyber Agency. The Collector, Customs, Peshawar, Qurban Ali Khan is making all out efforts to pursue the tribesmen to made them agree to the new site. Torkham, Pak-Afghan border is Shinwari tribe dominated area while Jamrud is Afridi populated area.

The Shinwari tribe fearing that the shifting of the customs clearance station from Torkham to Jamrud will hurt their business. In wake of the tribal rivalry and protection of their business interest, the Shinwari tribe is ready for giving land for the establishment of the facility. The Collector Customs in this regard Wednesday visited the proposed sites offered by the Shinwari tribe and found them feasible for the establishment of terminal.

Talking to this scribe, the Collector, Customs Qurban Ali Khan said that the expansion of the terminal is necessary to facilitate exports to Afghanistan. He said that in the wake of the decision of Economic Co-ordination Council (ECC) 0.7 million tons sugar will be exported to Afghanistan within a period of three months. The transportation of the commodity will be required from 60,000 to 70,000 trucks and the process will start from January 1, 2016, whose clearance through the existing terminal is impossible. He said that due to the unfamiliar situation, 70 to 80 officials of Pakistan Customs are facing suspension.
