In 2014, at least 4 car explosions took place whereas in 2015 there were none. In 2015, there were 6 suicide attacks compared to 11 in 2014. The IG Police said that there's been a prominent decrease in terrorism because of the ongoing operation Zarb-e-Azb in the tribal areas.
In 2015, at least two major acts of terrorism took place in Peshawar which shook the city. The first incident took place at Imamia Masjid Hayatabad in which 20 worshippers were killed. Another major attack took place on September 18, 2015 when terrorists attacked Pakistan Air Force (PAF) camp in Badaber area of Peshawar which resulted in martyrdom of 29 personnel including Captain Asfand Yar.
As per the statistics, 50% reduction was seen in missile attacks, 67% in rocket attacks, 49% in hand grenade attacks while 69% in firing incidents. However, the terrorists made sure their presence was felt through attacks on police forces in various areas. An official report, however, said that the number of light arms' attacks and targeted killings is on the rise, while suicide attacks and hand grenade incidents have shown downward trend. KPK shares its boundary with the restive tribal areas which are home to local and foreign terrorist.
Due to its geographical closeness to the lawless areas, KPK was an easy target of insurgents to carryout target attacks, but such incidents witnessed a remarkable drops since after the launch of operation Zarb-e-Azb" in North Waziristan tribal area.
