A debriefing session was held under the chairmanship of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif regarding his recent visit to Britain. Chairman Planning & Development gave a detailed briefing on the promotion of cooperation in education, health, anti-terrorism and other sectors, increase in investment and trade and memorandums of understanding signed with British institutions.

The participants of the meeting lauded the tireless efforts of the CM during this most successful visit. They said that British ministers and authorities not only appreciated reforms agenda for the development of social sectors in Punjab but also agreed to extend continuous cooperation to Punjab government and credit goes to the dynamic leadership of Shahbaz Sharif.

Addressing the debriefing session, Shahbaz said that his recent visit to Britain was the most successful one of his political career and his meetings with British ministers and heads of various institutions proved very useful. He said that British ministers and authorities expressed full confidence in the reforms programme of Punjab government in education, health, information technology and other sectors.

Shahbaz said that a peaceful, developed and prosperous Punjab is the common goal and there is a need for hard work for the achievement of this objective. He said that eight MoUs were signed during the visit to Britain for promotion of cooperation in different sectors and there is a need for speedy measures for ensuring that the benefits of the visit to Britain should reach the people of Punjab.

Shahbaz said that overseas Pakistanis including British investors expressed keen interest in Energy & Infrastructure Conference held in London and expressed willingness to make investment in the province. He said that MoU was also signed during the visit to Britain to promote the skill of 0.2 million teachers of primary schools of Punjab in the teaching of English language.

He said that follow-up action is of vital importance for the uplift of education, health and other social sectors so that the benefits of this successful visit should reach the masses in the real sense. The CM issued instructions for setting up a steering committee headed by Chief Secretary Punjab and said that sub-committees will also be constituted for every sector which will be responsible for follow-up action regarding the visit to Britain.

Shahbaz further said that UK-Pakistan Business and Trade Conference will soon be arranged in Lahore in the perspective of the interest shown by British investors and UK-based Pakistani investors. Provincial Ministers Ayesha Ghaus Pasha, Rana Mashhood Ahmed, Member National Assembly Khusro Bakhtiar, Chairman Punjab Education Foundation Engineer Qamar ul Islam, Members Provincial Assembly Jehangir Khanzada, Mehvish Sultana and concerned secretaries attended the debriefing session.
