The Sindh Assembly on Friday adopted a resolution against Altaf Hussain for his anti-state and anti-army speeches amid a protest by MQM lawmakers. Former MQM ally, the ruling PPP, also voted for the resolution, which the three smaller opposition parties - PTI, PML-N and PML-F - had jointly tabled in the house. The resolution asked the federal government to take a legal action against MQM chief Altaf Hussain.

PPP's Dr Sohrab Sarki was the only from treasury to sign the joint resolution with movers including the parliamentary leaders of PTI's Samar Ali Khan, PML-N's Shafi Jamote and PML-F's Nand Kumar. The MQM members created a rumpus in the house to protest and reject the joint resolution that subjected their leader to condemnation. The MQM legislators chanted high-pitched slogans 'no, no' to a resolution and 'long live Altaf'. All the three movers read out the resolution in turn amid MQM members' tumult that made the speakers inaudible in the house. The resolution was passed amid a pandemonium before Speaker Aga Siraj Khan Durrani adjourned the sitting till Monday morning.

The resolution condemned Altaf Hussain's controversial speech in which he had sought the deployment of UN and Nato troops in Karachi and taunted India for not intervening to help "end bloodshed of Mohajirs". It also censured the MQM's chief for his tirade against armed forces and Rangers, besides calling for the break-up of Sindh. The resolution also asked the federal government to take notice and a legal action against Altaf Hussain for his extremely objectionable speech.

At the outset of assembly's proceedings, lawmakers from PML-F, PML-N and PPP strongly criticised, albeit indirectly, the MQM chief's recent statements that triggered political turbulence in the country. The legislators also condemned the anti-Pakistan and anti-Sindh people.

PML-F's Mehtab Akbar Rashdi and PML-N's Surath Thebo said that the people of Sindh had sacrificed their belongings by donating them to those who came to Sindh from India after the Partition, besides providing them with land to live. Shafi Jamote and PPP's Khairunisa also expressed similar sentiments. MQM's Abdul Rauf Siddiqi urged the lawmakers to pray for Pakistan's stability as it is August, a month in which the country came into existence. He said that people had rendered huge sacrifices in the creation of Pakistan. Lawmakers also prayed for those died in Thursday's helicopter crash in Mansehra, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa; and they also prayed for Altaf Hussain's good health and long life.

Sindh Senior Irrigation Minister, Nisar Khuhro ruled out dangers of floods in Sindh, saying that the province's barrages would release between 600,000 and 700,000 cusecs of water in August. "It is not a 2010-like flood," he told the house, confirming that people living in areas contiguous to the river had however have left for safe places.

He said the government had marked 45 points as 'sensitive' on different embankments across the province. He said that water pressure had been high at 18 points but the government's immediate steps helped protect the collapse of embankments. The house also adopted The Sindh Board Technical Education (Amendment) Bill 2015 into law with a unanimous vote. The house also introduced three bills including The Sindh Zakat-Ushar (Amendment) Bill 2015, Shaheed Muhtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University Larkana (Amendment), 2015 and Malir University of Science and Technology Karachi Bill 2015. During the session, Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (Amendment) Ordinance 2015 was also tabled.
