Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Quaid Altaf Hussain Saturday said MQM would stage sit-in for the prosperity and stability of Pakistan once the ongoing sit-ins in Islamabad are called off. Addressing the general workers' convention at Lal Qila Ground, Altaf said Jamaat-i-Islami is a major rival of MQM but the party workers never dismantled the JI camps.

He said Pakistan People's Party (PPP) has been enjoying power in the politics for last many decades but failed to develop infrastructure in the province. "Roads are still giving a pathetic look," he commented. "I'm the son of the soil and Sindh is our motherland," he added.

He said MQM is against the division of Sindh Province but formation of new administrative units in the province is inevitable for development. Citing Saudi Arabia, he said it has many provinces on administrative grounds. "I always believed in dialogue and peace and request Sindhi intellectuals to come forward and start dialogue," he said.

He said the issue of formation of new administrative units in Sindh should be resolved through dialogue. He said certain Sindhi nationalist leaders are on the payroll of agencies. He asked TV anchorpersons to let MQM to clarify its stance on different issues and avoid prejudice against it. He advised party workers to shun tobacco, Paan, etc. "Youth should take active part in the development of the country with a constructive approach. He said MQM is the only party which raised voice against quota system. "Except MQM no other party opposed quota system in the province," he added.

Mohajirs supported Fatima Jinnah against Ayub Khan but Pukhtoons were brought to Karachi to 'wage war' against 'Kafirs'. He said MQM rendered unconditional support to PPP's co-chairman and former president Asif Ali Zardari but he (Zardari) always avoided accepting MQM's demands. He slammed PPP co-chairman Asif Zardari for nominating Qaim Ali Shah as chief minister of the province, saying that Shah Saheb kept himself aloof from the issues of the province. He asked law enforcement agencies to ensure transparency in the ongoing operation against criminals. Altaf Hussain asked the 'military establishment' as to what course of action it expects his party to take.

He regretted that his attempts to bring organisational changes leads to events that prevent the expulsion of black sheep from the party. "I am asking the colleagues to take control and make decisions themselves by implementing minus-Altaf formula," he continued.

He said the Mohajirs, who migrated from India to Pakistan, were subjected to a biased treatment. "We were even called the off-springs of Indira and Rajiv Gandhi during the raids in Karachi." Altaf Hussain said that two parties have been staging sit-ins in Islamabad for the past 50 days while Pakistan Television building was stormed and ransacked but no action was seen against them. "When our members protested against army operation, they were fired upon," he complained, asking how MQM would have been treated had it broken into PTV.
