The Registrar's office of the apex court raised some objections over the petition; however Irfan Qadir challenged those objections. On Friday, Chief Justice Nasirul Mulk heard the matter in his chamber and allowed the plea for regular hearing after removing the said objections. Talking to media persons, Irfan Qadir said a bench led by the Chief Justice Nasirul Mulk will hear his petition on September 29.
Khakwani has alleged through the petition that the sitting Prime Minister made false statement on the floor of the House by declaring that he had not communicated to army chief General Raheel Sharif to act as a mediator and a guarantor in the current political impasse.
The petitioner also submitted that the Prime Minister later denied in the Lower House that the army was dealing with such issues without government's desire. Khakwani further alleged that Nawaz Sharif had tried to malign and damage the image of the army in violation of the Article 62 (g) of constitution. The petitioner said that army's spokesperson had confirmed that government had asked the army chief to play a role in resolving the political impasse.
Khakwani said that the ISPR statement established that Nawaz Sharif had made a false statement concerning the army chief and, therefore, was liable to be proceeded against under the Article 62 (f) of constitution. Meanwhile, President Pakistan Muslim League (Q) Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain also filed a constitutional petition in the Supreme Court on Friday, urging the court to disqualify Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif under the Articles 62 and 63 of Constitution.
