A high-level meeting to review security issues was chaired by the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif here on Tuesday during which prevailing national and regional security situation was reviewed. The meeting was attended by Minister for Interior Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Chief of the Army Staff General Raheel Sharif, Advisor to PM on Foreign Affairs and National Security Sartaj Aziz, DG ISI Lieutenant General Muhammad Zaheer-ul-Islam, Chief of General Staff Lieutenant General Ashfaq Nadeem, DG MO Major General Amir Riaz, Secretary to PM Javaid Aslam and Additional Secretary to PM Fawad Hasan Fawad.
Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif briefed the Prime Minister regarding his recent visit to Kabul and his discussions on border co-ordination and security for the second phase of Afghan Presidential elections. The meeting also reviewed law and order situation in Balochistan and Karachi.
INP adds: Sources said that DG ISI Lieutenant General Zaheerul Islam briefed the meeting on the security environment. They said that the prime minister also took notice of kidnapping of a Chinese tourist from Dera Ismail Khan district. The prime minister directed concerned authorities to take immediate steps for recovery of the abducted Chinese national at earliest.
