Later on, speaking at a joint news conference, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said, "Strong relations between Pakistan and Iran are need of the hour as it will guarantee peace and stability in the region." Specifically business relations between the two countries would also be strengthened for the benefit of the people of the two countries, Chaudhry Nisar said, adding that "Sky is the limit for our relations".
Nisar said that the two sides had agreed to enhance cooperation in areas such as security, cross-border terrorism, smuggling, human trafficking, greater intelligence sharing and co-ordination between the security forces of both the countries.
The Interior Minister said that Pakistan had no problem with Iran and added that the present government wanted relations between the two neighbours to be reflective of the aspirations of the two peoples. Pakistan-Iran relations would go a long way in furthering the economic cooperation, he said. He said both the sides had agreed to set up a Task Force or Joint Commission before the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's visit to Iran to keep a contact between Frontier Corps (FC) and Iranian officials to resolve border issues if any. Director General (DG) Military Operations of the two countries would also remain in touch, he said.
Iranian Interior Minister said that he had very fruitful meetings with Pakistani leadership, adding that he had come to Pakistan with a message of peace and cooperation. He expressed the hope that relations between Pakistan and Iran would further strengthen with the upcoming visit of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to Iran. "Both sides have agreed on intelligence sharing, periodical visits of border and joint operation against terrorism to further cement bilateral relations," he said.
He also said that both sides agreed to strengthen border markets, increase the exchange of commodities and create more opportunities for bilateral investment. However, Chaudhry Nisar made it clear that Pakistanis security forces would conduct an operation on their side of the boarder when there was any issue while Iran would take the action against any untoward incident on its side.
Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli said, "We are hopeful that Interior Ministers of Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran would hold a trilateral meeting to improve security co-operation in the region." To a question about the remaining fifth kidnapped Iranian border security guard, he said, "We have taken up this issue at the highest level and added he will be sharing the evidence based on a video and images of the 5th kidnapped guard and the new terrorist organisation with the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif." However, Interior Minister Chuadhry Nisar Ali Khan clarified that the kidnapped security guards were never ever in Pakistan.
To another question, the Iranian Interior Minister said that there was no tension on Iran and Pakistan borders and his country never intended to interfere in the internal affair of Pakistan. "It is priority of Iran foreign policy to promote good relations with Islamic and regional countries especially with those which are its neighbours. We are determined to have good relations with Saudi Arabia," he said. Chaudhry Nisar said that Pakistan had cordial ties with both Iran and Saudi Arabia. He said that after the approval of a bill by Iranian parliament for enhanced co-operation with Pakistan, both countries would be able to effectively fight terrorism and stop human and drug trafficking.
