An All-Party Conference on national security on Monday decided to hold talks with the Taliban. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif chaired the APC, which held a day-long deliberations with all stakeholders and unanimously agreed on a six-point resolution signed by the leaders of all major political parties to deal with the issue of terrorism must for peace and stability.

The Prime Minister, the Minister for Interior Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani and Director General Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Lieutenant General Muhammad Zaheerul Islam gave a detailed briefing to the APC regarding the internal and regional security situation.

The APC decided that the federal government in collaboration with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa administration would oversee the state of affairs in the volatile Fata region where country's armed forces are battling a TTP-led insurgency. The APC called upon the government to initiate dialogue with all the stakeholders forthwith and for this purpose authorized it (government) to take all necessary steps to eradicate the menace, including development of an appropriate mechanism along with identification of interlocutor.

The joint resolution signed by all the participants declared that there would be no compromise on Pakistan's sovereignty and integrity. The APC expressed complete trust and confidence in the Armed Forces and assured them of full support in overcoming any challenge to country's national security or threat to our national interests;

The APC urged the federal government to raise the issue of drone attacks at the United Nations. It says that drones is not only a continued violation of our territorial integrity, but also detrimental to our resolve and efforts towards eliminating extremism and terrorism from the country.

The APC decided that Pakistan will determine the means and mode of fighting this war in national interest and shall not be guided by US or any other country in this regard. The resolution said that the international community had been reluctant to acknowledge the sacrifices rendered by people of Pakistan in the war against terrorism.

It said that thousands of precious innocent lives of men, women and children along with defence and security personnel have been lost in the war, the illegal and immoral drone attacks and the blow-back from actions of Nato/ISAF forces in Afghanistan. There has also been colossal damage to social and physical infrastructure and huge consequential financial loss and adverse impact on our national economy.

It was decided that another APC will be called to resolve the issues facing the terror-stricken province, Balochistan. The APC authorises the provincial government of Balochistan and its Chief Minister to initiate the process of dialogue with all estranged Baloch elements inside and outside the country with a view to bringing them back to national mainstream;

Appreciating, initiative of federal government regarding Karachi, the APC urged the provincial and federal governments to make sustained and concerted efforts with complete impartiality and dedication for bringing peace back to Karachi. The APC also urged the federal government to make all efforts towards bringing peace to Afghanistan by continuous and sustained engagements with the government and people of Afghanistan.

Earlier, PTI chief Imran Khan met Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani. The Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar and the Director General Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) were also present in the meeting, sources said.

JI leader Liaquat Baloch while talking to media persons after the APC said that the Jamaat-i-Islami had been pleading from the beginning that the use of force should not be employed for restoration of peace in the country. He said that the APC agreed upon resolution of issues through talks rather than use of force. He said that previous government did not act upon the resolutions of the parliament.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chief, Imran Khan, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F (JUI-F) Chief, Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman, Pakistan People's Party (PPP) leader, Makhdoom Ameen Fahim, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader, Farooq Sattar, Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) Chief, Pir Sibghatullah Rashdi, Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) leader Liaquat Baloch, Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) Chief Mahmood Khan Achakzai, Awami national Party (ANP) leader Haji Adeel, Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-Mengal) Chief Akhtar Mengal, Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q) Chief Chaudhry Shujaat and the representatives of Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) and Fata attended the APC.

The APC was also attended by Punjab Chief Minister, Shahbaz Sharif, Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Khyber Pukhtunkhaw Chief Minister, Pervaiz Khattak, Balochistan Chief Minister, Dr Abdul Malik, Khyber Pukhtunkhaw Governor Engineer Shaukatullah, Interior Minister, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Information Minister, Pervaiz Rashid and Finance Minister, Ishaq Dar. The APC expressed the resolve to end extremism and terrorism from the country.
