In Punjab floods have also been caused by massive water release by India in River Sutlej, which is expected to enter District Kasur and Okara, while the authorities asked the people to leave for safer places. Standing crops on 144,000 acres in Punjab have been destroyed while in Sindh crops on some 6,000 acres have been destroyed. The government in some parts has called Army to support relief work and rescue operations, as due to flooding 20 persons have been killed in Punjab, 16 in Balochistan, 24 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), 22 in Sindh, 12 in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) and four in Azad Kashmir.
According to a senior official of provincial Disaster Management Authority Punjab, River Indus at Chashma barrage is on high flood where at present water level is 650,000 cusecs, while Chashma barrage can bear 1 million cusecs.
According to officials, River Indus at Guddu is likely to attain high flood level ranging between 600000 to 650000 cusecs during August 20 and 21. River Indus at Sukkur is also likely to attain high flood level ranging between 600000 to 650000 cusecs during same period.
The authorities have asked the people residing in dangerous zones especially on the bank of rivers to evacuate the areas as early as possible so that loss of life could be averted.
Authorities have warned that during next week more heavy rains are expected which would be resulted in mass displacement as the water level in several rivers will rise.
The authorities have established 17 relief camps for the flood affected people, of which 16 in Punjab and one in Sindh, wherein a total of 2,800 people have been shifted.
In Balochistan, districts Jhal Magsi, Naseerabad and Jaffarabad are declared most sensitive and the authorities have asked the people residing there to evacuate their homes. As per officials, Quetta, Kalat, Naushki, Harnai, Zhob, Ziarat, Mastung Jhal Magsi, Sibi, Naseerabad, Sanjavi, Mushakhel, Dera Allayar, Khuzdar and other areas of Balochistan are also expected to receive heavy rains.
