At least three persons were killed while 35 others injured in successive bomb blasts near an MQM election office in Block 8 of Azizabad in the limits of Azizabad police station. Meanwhile, MQM's Co-ordination Committee announced to observe a day of mourning across Sindh on Sunday (today).

"The first explosion occurred at 8:55pm while second one took place 20 minutes after the first one just as rescuers started to work, leaving three persons dead and injuring dozens others, including a number of women and children," eyewitnesses said. The casualties were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. The deceased were identified as Rahim, Rahat Khan and an eight-year-old child.

The second explosion was more powerful than the first one and its blast was heard for miles away from the site. Smoke plumes were seen rising up. The blasts damaged MQM's Unit Office No153 near the party's headquarters, Nine-Zero, that was being used as an election office. A rickshaw was also destroyed by the blast. According to DIG West Zafar Abbas Bukhari, the first explosive device was planted beneath a rickshaw and the second one was hidden inside a concrete block, adding that both devices contained at least a kilogram of explosive material.

Police officials said that nut bolts, ball-bearings and iron strips were used to intensify the blast damage. Windowpanes of nearby buildings were shattered. Rescue sources said that several rescue personnel were injured in the second blast. A driver and a cameraman of a private TV channel were also hurt in the blast. According to Sindh Rangers' spokesperson, three Rangers' men were also injured in the blast. Political parties, including MQM, Jamaat-i-Islami and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz have condemned the blast. Chief of Jamaat-i-Islami Syed Munwar Hassan said that such cowardly attacks were being carried out to postpone the general elections.

MQM's Co-ordination Committee said that it would observe a day of mourning to protest against the killings of several party workers and sympathisers in the blasts. MQM Co-ordination Committee condemned the terrorist attack and expressed grief and sorrow over the killings. The Committee appealed members of the business community and transporters to keep their business closed, besides keeping vehicles off the road throughout the province. Police's spokesperson Imran Shaukat said that he had no report regarding the blast.
