As many as four paramilitary men were killed after a blast occurred near the headquarters of Rangers 43 Wing in the limits of Awami Colony police station. Five more Rangers' men were reported to be injured in the blast. According to DIG Captain Tahir Naveed, the blast occurred near a Rangers van in Korangi No 5.

As a result, he said, nine paramilitary personnel were injured and were shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) where four of them, identified as Amanat, Saifullah, Majid and Irfan, succumbed to their injuries. He said that initial reports suggested that it was a hand-grenade attack, but it was too early to say whether a bomb had been planted in the van or culprits lobbed a hand grenade on it.

Meanwhile, Dr Seemi Jamal said that two Rangers men had been brought dead to the hospital while two others lost their lives later. She said that the five injured men were named Hidayatullah, Imran, Hayat, Sarwar Khan and Naik Sahib. All of them were in a critical condition. SHO of Awami Colony police station Javeed Ahmad Barohi said that it seemed that the bomb had been planted near the Rangers' van and it was detonated with a remote control device.
