PPI adds: Lawyers to boycott proceedings: In Karachi, Sindh Bar Council (SBC) on Saturday announced that legal fraternity would boycott proceedings throughout the province on Monday in protest against Friday's conduct of former President and army General Musharraf's supporters in SHC where they allegedly ruined the sanctity of court.
This was announced by SBC vice president Muhammad Aqil during a press briefing at SHC. He also announced that SBC has decided to award Tajammul Lodhi, who hurled a shoe at former military ruler. He claimed that paramilitary forces and Musharraf's personal squad had virtually taken over the High Court during his appearance. He said that his supporters carrying party flags destroyed the sanctity of the court as they raised slogans in the court rooms.
Naeem Qureshi, President Karachi Bar Association, said that Musharraf would not be allowed in the premises of the district courts where he was expected to reach for the scrutiny of his nomination papers. They appealed to the Chief Justice of Pakistan and the Chief Justice SHC to take notice of the attitude of Musharraf and his supporters and initiate contempt of court proceedings against him.
