The preliminary post-mortem report of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) officer Kamran Faisal, who was investigating rental power plant (RPP) scam case on Saturday declared suicide as the apparent cause of his death. A six-member team of doctors, who carried out the post-mortem at Polyclinic, said that the death was a suicide because they found no resistance or torture marks on his body, adding that various samples had been sent to the forensic lab for further investigation.

Spokesperson for the Polyclinic Hospital Dr Sharif Astoori said that there was only one mark on Faisal's neck and it appeared that he had committed suicide. He maintained that the initial report indicated that the officer himself had committed suicide.

Sources said that the initial report was submitted in the Islamabad Secretariat Police Station. However, the final forensic report in this regard will be compiled in a week. An official of the Islamabad Secretariat Police told Business Recorder that so far no First Investigation Report (FIR) of the case has been registered, insisting that no one has yet contacted police to get the case registered. Only a report has been filed on the demise of Kamran Faisal in Secretariat police station, they added.

According to sources, Islamabad Deputy Commissioner Aamir Ali has appointed Assistant Commissioner (AC) Secretariat Noman Yousuf the inquiry officer for recording statements of Kamran's friends, hostel staff and NAB officers, sources added. Sources maintained that police have taken the personal computer of the deceased into custody and is searching for his laptop which was missing from his room, sources added.

According to reports, relatives of Kamran Faisal alleged that torture marks were visible on the deceased's body, including arms, back and wrist. They said that they had seen torture marks while bathing Kamran's body before burial. Earlier, authorities handed over Kamran's body to his maternal uncle in Islamabad, who later brought it to Mian Channu. His funeral prayer was offered in his ancestral village. Assistant Director NAB Kamran Faisal, who was investigating the RPP scam case, was found dead in his room in the Federal Lodges on Friday. He was found hanging from ceiling fan when the NAB officials broke into his room.
