Thousands of people, including JI activists, workers and leaders of various religious and political parties attended the funeral procession of veteran politician and former Amir Jamaat-e-Islami Qazi Hussain Ahmad here on Sunday.

The funeral prayer was led by JI Amir Munawar Hassan. Later he was buried in his ancestral graveyard in Ziarat Kaka Sahib near Nowshera. Qazi Hussain was died on late Saturday night due to cardiac arrest. He was 74.

Draped in JI's flag, the coffin of Qazi Hussain Ahmad was brought from his house in Peshawar to Motorway Ring Road, where his funeral prayers were held. The funeral was attended by several political leaders including Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PKMAP) Chairman Mehmood Khan Achakzai, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F), Chief Fazlur Rehman, Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) Chairman Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Central President Javed Hashmi and Jamiat Ulama-i-Islam-Sami (JUI-S) Chief Maulana Samiul Haq, former DG ISI Hameed Gul, Chief of Hizbul Mujahideen Salahudin, PML-N's Ameer Muqam, ANP's Haroon Bilour. Besides, the funeral was attended by a large number of JI workers, supporters and sympathisers.

He was the head of the JI for almost 22 years, had decided to step down from his post in 2009. Meanwhile, President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf, Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Syed Munawar Hassan, Liaquat Baloch, Fareed Paracha, PML-N President Mian Nawaz Sharif, MQM chief Altaf Hussain, Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhawa (KP) Barrister Masood Kausar, Chief Minister Ameer Haider Hoti, CM Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif and others have expressed heartfelt grief over the sad demise of Qazi Hussain Ahmed.

Paying rich tributes to his services, they called the death of JI former Ameer as irreparable loss for the politics of the country. They also prayed Allah Almighty to rest the departed soul in eternal peace and courage for the bereaved family to bear this loss with fortitude.

Qazi Hussain Ahmed was born in 1938 in the house of Maulana Qazi Muhammad Abdul Rab at Ziarat Kaka Sahib. After completing early education at home, Qazi Hussain Ahmad took admission in Islamia College, Peshawar and after that got his Masters of Science degree in Geography from Peshawar University.

In 2008, he excused to be elected once more and the members of his Party elected Syed Munawwar Hassan as the new Amir of the party.
