Textile industry in Punjab witnessed another day of power blackout, especially the mills with Captive Power Plants (CPPs) remained closed and a large number of workers of these mills were clueless about their fate for at least next two months.

It may be noted that the Federal Minister for Water and Power Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar visited APTMA a day earlier but he refused to surrender the demand of APTMA members for announcement of early restoration of electricity. He said the APTMA leadership should visit him in Islamabad on Monday to strategize as how electricity can be restored to the mills with dual facility of energy.

However, his refusal dismayed the industrialists at large and termed his visit as a total hopeless move. The PEPCO sources said the electricity supply is likely to be restored by the middle of next week. The Federal Minister also pointed out a day earlier that the furnace oil shipments would reach the country in a day or two and soon thermal generation through furnace oil will be resumed. Meanwhile, power supply to the mills on independent feeders is intact and production is in full swing.
