As many as 13 students were awarded Zulfiqar gold medal and 16 got chancellor gold medal for securing top positions in various disciplines. Speaking as chief guest on the occasion, Professor Dr Atta ur Rehman, former minister and Patron-in-Chief - International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences underlined the need of highly educated youth to transform the country into a knowledge-based society. He said higher educational institutions have to play a vital role in social development and educational transformation of the people.
Riphah International University, he said is making a great contribution to the promotion of education by imparting quality education to the youth of the country. He congratulated graduating students and faculty for maintaining high standard of education and for holding regular convocations.
Dr Hasan Sohaib Murad, Rector University of Management and Technology said that both public and private sectors have to play a responsible role in building the future knowledge-based economies. He said Riphah International University has set an example for other institutions. Hassan Muhammad Khan, Pro-Chancellor of the university informed the gathering about future plans of the university and said, Ras-al-Khaima, College of Dental Sciences has already started functioning in UAE. He said the university is now planning to establish its campus in Mauritius.
He also informed about the finalisation of plan for construction of new campus of the university in Islamabad. He said an agreement has been signed for the purpose with a consortium of world renowned architectural companies led by John R Harris and Partners (JHRP) which has vast experience in planning and designing of large scale projects all over the world.
The Vice Chancellor of the university Professor Dr Anis Ahmad said this is the age of globalisation with global challenges in strategic areas like economy, education, security and culture. We have tried to prepare graduates with knowledge, skills and leadership qualities to meet these challenges effectively and successfully, he added.
