The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday sent a list of those Parliamentarians and Members Provincial Assemblies to Supreme Court of Pakistan who failed to submit affidavits regarding dual nationality till November 30, 2012 (Last date for filing the declaration).

The commission has, in pursuance of the directions of the apex court vide its judgement on September 20, 2012, also sent the list to the Registrar, Supreme Court containing the names of those Senators, Members National Assembly and Members Provincial Assemblies of Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan who have submitted affidavits regarding dual nationality to the Commission.

Sixteen legislators did not submit affidavits declaring that to affirm not being the nationals of any other state but Pakistan. These included nine MNAs, three senators, six MPAs from Sindh and one MPA from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. All the MPAs from Punjab and Balochistan had submitted the affidavits.

The Speaker National Assembly Dr Fehmida Mirza on Monday accepted resignation of Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) Member of National Assembly (MNA) Sabeen Rizvi pertaining to the dual nationality case. After the resignation of four MNAs and six MPAs, there are still six lawmakers who have not yet submitted their affidavits. MNAs Aziz Sheikh of Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and Dr Donya Aziz of Pakistan Muslim League - Quaid (PML-Q) had argued before the EC that they didn't acquire foreign citizenship, but were born there.
