This was expressed by the delegation of members of British Parliament (International Development Committee) led by Sir Malcolm Bruce during a meeting with Federal Minister and Chairperson BISP, Farzana Raja here at BISP Secretariat. The eleven-member delegation lauded the leadership of Farzana Raja in running BISP in highly successful and transparent manner. The members of delegation said that they have gained valuable information about the working of BISP during their visit.
Earlier, the Chairperson BISP informed the delegation about various interventions of the programme aiming at poverty alleviation, women empowerment and to make Pakistan a social welfare state. Farzana Raja on the occasion apprised the members of the delegation that BISP is contributing significantly in achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) of United Nations regarding women empowerment and education. It is a 'one-window programme' providing various services to the beneficiary families simultaneously, she added.
Farzana Raja said that the use of the state of the art modern technology by BISP has proved to be a great help in enhancing the transparency employed in the programme further. She said that despite the difficult ground situation, BISP has completed country wide poverty survey including in the region of FATA. She added further that BISP is an asset of all Pakistanis and serving people without any discrimination or any other consideration.
Farzana Raja informed the delegation that BISP is about to introduce a legislation that would ensure the contribution of corporate sector in the area of social protection. She also thanked British government for support to BISP through DFID especially in education sector. It may be recalled here that the delegation of members of British Parliament is at visit of Pakistan presently to evaluate the spending of financial assistance provided by British Office as a contribution in the social sector.-PR
