The workshop provided an opportunity to young leaders coming from conflicted areas to understand the dynamics of conflict and get trained on peace-building measures to ascertain peace in the society. Participants were also encouraged youth to work with local government officials and decision makers.
The workshop was a continuation of series of workshops taking place under the "Promotion of dialogue on peace building through Media and youth mobilisation". After successful training, the participants would work in the field and conduct district dialogue forums to establish peace in their respective areas.
Earlier, Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed expressively presented his argument on inclusion of youth in decision making within the state structure. He advised the young leaders to organise themselves to initiate process of peace building in their regions. SFCG Pakistan Country Director, Ammara Durrani said that 'Pakistan Peace Initiative' seeks to promote a participatory environment that stimulates information flow, nurtures youth involvement for proactive conflict mitigation, and reconciliation initiatives in Pakistan.
"Our youth have energy, potential and strength, which are key abilities needed to play the role of peace-builders in society," she said. SDPI Executive Director Dr Abid Suleri termed youth as the future hope for Pakistan, and informed participants about new development discourse where emphases was now shifted toward local knowledge and actions and advised them to play active role in development of their respective communities.-PR
