The Select Committee of the National Assembly on Friday sought opinions of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and other stakeholders on 'The Prevention of Electronic Crimes Bill, 2010' to finalise its draft. The Committee met with Khwaja Sohail Mansoor in the chair at the Parliament House on Friday. Among others, Anusha Rahman Khan and Nosheen Saeed participated in the meeting.

The FIA's attorney objected on the Bill, saying that the draft should explain offenses in a simple and clear manner. He said that the bill's language was "very lengthy and complicated". Aunsha Rehman said that local police should take immediate action against persons who committed any electronic crime.

Barrister Zahid Jameel and PTA's representative were of the view that efforts should be made to modify the existing law, instead of producing a new law to avoid legal complications. The Select Committee directed that Ministry may hold a joint meeting with PTA and Barrister Ejaz Ishaq Khan to build a consensus on the proposed legislation.
