The NAB has also started an enquiry against the Capital Development Authority (CDA) for allowing the construction of towers and high-rise buildings in the federal capital without consulting CAA about permissible safety heights. Chairman NAB Adm Fasih Bokhari (Retd) has directed operation division on Thursday to begin enquiry against CAA and CDA after a briefing that he received from Director General (DG) CAA, the NAB spokesman said.
According to him, the design of new Islamabad airport does not meet the International standards for the use of both airstrips simultaneously as despite availability of space the inter-strip distance is only 300 meters instead of 800 metres. The NAB spokesman said the Bureau had initiated an inquiry into the auditing and billing system of CAA pertaining to charges levelled in March 2012. The CAA has been losing approximately Rs 10-14 billion per year for the last two decades as its charges had never been revised since 1992. There was no transparent system of accounting and verification of these charges.
