Around 10 fire tenders took four hours to extinguish the fire. A hole was also hammered through one of the walls of the factory to get the injured out. While talking to media, DCO Lahore Noor ul Ameen Mengal said an electric generator explosion set chemicals on fire.
MS Mayo Hospital confirmed that the deaths of most of the workers were due to third-degree burns and the rest from inhaling poisonous fumes. He said the injured with first and second-degree burns were being treated in the burns ward of the hospital. He later confirmed that 20 dead bodies had been received by the hospital.
Meanwhile, three bodies of workers were brought to the Munshi Hospital during the day. Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif taking immediate notice of the incident directed the DCO Lahore to submit report within 24 hours. The CM has also announced Rs 0.5 million each for the heirs of the deceased persons. Commissioner, DCO Lahore, DIG police and MNA Hamza Shahbaz Sharif and other representatives also visited the factory and Mayo Hospital.
