A leading global technology infrastructure provider and an IT consulting company TEXPO Group of Companies, UAE has announced 25 scholarships for IT students of six state universities in Pakistan under a talent hunt programme. These students were selected among 371 contestants from six universities including NED University, Karachi University, Jamashoro, Balochistan and Peshawar and Karakoram, through an on-line countrywide test held on May 10, 2012.

Speaking at scholarship award ceremony on the closing day of 7thCONNECT-2012, at Karachi Expo on Thursday, President and CEO Dr Sarfraz Alam said one-year scholarships will be an annual feature. He said that this test was exclusively designed by TEXPO, operating in six countries including Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Nepal and Bhutan.

"The passing marks were 33 percent but contestants an average have scored above 75 percent in the test which shows the talent and high calibre of Pakistani students. The global IT community respects and praises the high quality of Pakistani students. They acknowledge Pakistani IT industry as credible sector", he added.

Sindh IT Minister Syed Raza Haroon said that Pakistan was prepared to share all the latest information and advancement in IT sector around the world. He appreciated CEO of TEXPO for announcing the scholarships. Dr Sarfraz, who is a Ph.D in computer science, said that IT professionals can greatly help Pakistan in improving its image in the world as IT professionals are in demand world over due to their talents and high calibre.

"I am a Pakistani and I wanted to groom the explored talent here, train and guide them in their career selection. We will also arrange for free of cost Microsoft and CISCO certification. TEXPO is Microsoft partner globally", he added.

Dr Sarfraz said that as an effort to highlight Pakistani IT talent to the outside world, I have brought vice presidents of top US IT companies including PANDUIT, NTEST, and CANNON Tech. They are our partners and they are big companies, having an annual turnover of $29 billion, he opined. Vice Consul, Consulate of Germany, Martin Lotzer said that Karachi has a lot of potential and good place for business.-PR
